Hit all the high spots of Clapton and made a great gift for my father.
There are a couple bona-fide hits here in the Babyface (.). In fact, only the low-key "River Of Tears" seems to find Clapton driving himself away from the staid or stoic hitmaker of the bulk of this CD.
It would have added some spark to an anthology that otherwise seems destined to be used for background music. Why not throw a track or two from From the Cradle or the title track from Riding with the King.
Once Eric Clapton broke his Polyrgram contract and renegotiate with Warners, he began a slow descent into middle-of-the-road album rock and popular ballads. Clapton as a balladeer is still a solid bet, but it makes "Clapton Chronicles" a bit lopsided.
If you want to splurge an extra couple of bucks, the Complete Clapton is a much better comp. That's what you'll find on this single disc set.
produced "Change The World" and the intensely personal "Tears In Heaven." You also get the Grammy Winning acoustic take on "Layla." What's left are a few minor hits ("Forever Man," "It's In The Way That You Use It") and a bunch of factory ready slick tunes that bring none of the guitar legend prowess that made Clapton's name. That's not to say this is bad stuff.
This is just the best cd from Eric Clapton i feel its not one with just few of his good songs it is one that actually has all good songs. This is the cd anyone would enjoy. Thanks
Very good for any fan or just to get to know his music. Awesome mix of his softer side while still keeping up with his classic rock days.
I highly reccomend this to anyone wanting to experience Eric at his best. All his best songs are on this, at least the ones I wanted.
